The Christmas StarIt is the Christmas Star that adorns the top of most Christmas trees. It is also depicted in the background of most pictures of the three wise men. To the Christian faithful, the star was seen by the three wise men which led them to the manger where the baby Jesus was lying by the side of his mother, Mary. Modern historians have discounted the fact that this "star" was just a comet or shooting star in the sky. First of all, the phenomenon lasted for many nights, and there was no known comet near the earth at the time of the birth of Christ. To the believers, the star is a sign given by god to his followers - a sign of god's hope and love - or a signal pointing his flock in the right direction. In some regions of the world, the Christmas Star is celebrated. For instance, in Poland, they celebrate the Festival of the Star and in Alaska, children carry large decorated stars to their neighbors houses in hopes of receiving treats. |
